Agenda 2008-05-16
Deferred and hence carried over from last meeting -
- Spread the word campaign of Ubuntu to end-users/developers
- Covered above already 'Next Milestone'
- Any project people want to start/have in mind about starting? Packaging? Write code?
Agenda 2008-05-02
- Hardy Heron release party discussion
- AptOnCD could not be reached to people because of some technical problem. The company by the name cdhut in opposite of nd's inside the khasa market. We need to make sure we DO NOT use the service of that company in future. By all means!
- Next milestone if any?
Translate ubuntu packages to Nepali. We need to have more people to be able to embark on this project. Go through https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/+lang/ne to see all the packages that needs to be translated to Nepali. It is a huge project and needs proper planning. We are all putting this here for future reference in case we forget. oops!
Since the AptOnCD that got foo*ed up in #1. (above) will be used in LOCUS. SurajSapkota will look into replicating the CDs for distributing it on LOCUS.
- We need to get Ubuntu usability testing carried out by some volunteers-
high-profile users (actors, editors, politicians etc..) The idea is that so that they can test for themselves. Please look at http://contentconsumer.wordpress.com/2008/04/27/is-ubuntu-useable-enough-for-my-girlfriend/ to get some rough idea of how things will be done. The basic idea was proposed by Webrover.
- r11t points out about new users. To basically see how they interact with the famous KDE/Gnome environment of Ubuntu and then jot those points down.
- Have audio/text transcript of conversation with new users.
- As webrover and surmandal points out, it is always good to spread the word of libre software in any manner. Have mysansar.com, blog.com.np and cybersansar as the main focal points for spreading the word of Ubuntu as the "Best" free, libre software with no strings attached.
I personally (Bikal) think that there should be MORE users involved and spreading the word-of-mouth should be done anywhere/everywhere. Please think about what I just said. The critical USER mass should be there before we even start of embarking on projects like translation. It's huge and also, by spreading the message of Ubuntu, we gain huge community of Libre software.
- Relax a bit for all you folks in Nepal? :-p
- Relax dherai vayo with all the guppa guppi in #ubuntu-np LMAO.
- Ramp up wiki editing a bit more by everyone. (Say 10mins/day is enough from everyone)
- OK everyone involved in Ubuntu-np LOCO (the core people) has agreed to do bit of editing on basic stuffs to help end-users with their problem.
- Could people also ask in Mailing List and real-world about what end-users (new users in particular) would like to see in the wiki so that it helps them in accomplishing their task successfully on Ubuntu? We will then put that entry up in the wiki.
- Spread the word campaign of Ubuntu to end-users/developers
- Covered above already 'Next Milestone'
- Any project people want to start/have in mind about starting? Packaging? Write code?
No conclusion reached whatsoever on this. Moved over to next meeting. Important we discuss about this.

This is so that new users have proper way to navigate the wiki from the Welcome Page.
Improve Nepali localization : Since UbuntuNepali page says that there are lots of broken strings that need to be localized. Maybe we can have a long term project in the pipeline to improve localization support.
